Glass Up, a competition for Google Glass
Experiments with Google Glass have already been done by some non-professionals or some gadget freaks. Some of them deconstructed and later on reconstructed the product successfully and they also merged the product with other things, mostly spectacles.
Google Up is one such gadget which appeared as a Google Glass rival. This connects to yourSmartphone device and provides you updates and notifications right at your lenses. The crowdfunding campaign has already started with Indeigogo with a goal of $150,000.. pre-orders have already started.
As for the manufacturing one might see Glass Up and Google Glass is quite similar but these are entirely different. Google Glass can be said a well developed one while Glass Up a rider on the back. However, it definitely has provided a competitor to Google. Google Glass has a built-in camera and voice recognition feature while Glass Up lack both of these features. As for privacy issues there is already a hype around.
Glass Up is a “receive only” gadget as it cannot provide even a snapshot of its own. It is more like Smartwatch which can receive notifications too. These glasses connect with Android, iOS and Windows Smartphones through a low powered Bluetooth 4.0. This enables information from your Smartphone to be transmitted to your device.
It will display a 320×420 while Google Glass gives a 640×360 pixel display and the former do not entertain WI-fi radio so you just have your Smartphone feed to rely on. As for batteries, the company claims it lasts 150 hours of standby and 8 hours of normal usage. Plus the image is projected in front of your eye rather than a side view.
