Glass Up, a competition for Google Glass

Glass Up, a competition for Google GlassExperiments with Google Glass have already been done by some non-professionals or some gadget freaks. Some of them deconstructed and later on reconstructed the product successfully and they also merged the product with other things, mostly spectacles.
Google Up is one such gadget which appeared as a Google Glass rival. This connects to yourSmartphone device and provides you updates and notifications right at your lenses. The crowdfunding campaign has already started with Indeigogo with a goal of $150,000.. pre-orders have already started.
As for the manufacturing one might see Glass Up and Google Glass is quite similar but these are entirely different. Google Glass can be said a well developed one while Glass Up a rider on the back. However, it definitely has provided a competitor to Google. Google Glass has a built-in camera and voice recognition feature while Glass Up lack both of these features. As for privacy issues there is already a hype around.
Glass Up is a “receive only” gadget as it cannot provide even a snapshot of its own. It is more like Smartwatch which can receive notifications too. These glasses connect with Android, iOS and Windows Smartphones through a low powered Bluetooth 4.0. This enables information from your Smartphone to be transmitted to your device.
It will display a 320×420 while Google Glass gives a 640×360 pixel display and the former do not entertain WI-fi radio so you just have your Smartphone feed to rely on. As for batteries, the company claims it lasts 150 hours of standby and 8 hours of normal usage. Plus the image is projected in front of your eye rather than a side view.
Pre-orders are available at a $399 price, quite affordable as compared to Google Glass. Shipping will start in March 2014. Moreover, the company will keep on shipping even if crowdfunding campaign fails.

Flexible computing receives an artificial skin

Flexible computing technology is of wide interest and recently a plastic skin developed might give it a better position. It is a thin sheet of plastic which emit light when pressed and intensity of light depends on the pressure applied. Inventors say that this technology will be used in future for robotics, car dashboard, mobile displays and interactive wallpapers as well.

It is manufactured by Dr. Ali Javi and his team, who is an associate professor in electrical engineering and computer sciences at the University of California. Researchers called this technology electric skin. His group developed a technique which enabled integration of organic and non-organic components simultaneously.
Recently technologies developing alternates of silicon wafers are getting potential as silicon wafer is the only medium at the moment to manufacture electric circuits. A limitation for these wafers is their hardness. These flexible  circuits might be revolutionary and find applications in medical fields.
Ali Javi and his research team prepared a high resolution pressure sensor which was prepared on a large plastic patch with nano wires. This sensor works on the application of pressure and the team intended to create a pressure sensor array which could interact directly with humans. Researchers prepared pressure sensors with rubber, OLED, carbon nanotubes and silicon wafers. However plastic wafers are till now the most complicated ones.

Smartphone apps now help quit smoking

Smartphone apps now help quit smoking
As self analysis apps are getting public interest, developers have now started to find various other features for which an app might be developed. It has been seen that app developers are concerned to create more and more apps that help them get a better health.
Are you an addict of cigarette? You might want to get free of this bad habit. As for smoking, it is bad for health. A study reveals that youngs are more inclined to start smoking that adults while people around 30 are simply addicted to smoking and find it difficult to get free of it.
According to behavioral scientist MD Anderson, thousands of teens get addicted to smoking each day. He also believed that the trend is followed throughout the world. He told that the app Tobacco Free Teens might prove to be a blessing for those who want to quit smoking. It is a free iOS app that helps teenagers consciously or subconsciously in quitting smoking. Also the app keeps them aware of smoking hazards and hence help them immensely to get free of their addiction.

The ‘Tobacco Free Teens’ app helps young to quit smoking. The app also provides suggestions on how to improve behaviors that will help eliminate pro tobacco pressure. The app designer A. Prokohov says, “Our app combines education and comics with interactive games”. This appears very interesting indeed as there are usually things that guide us instructions how to get free of smoking and such things are boring and soon the person following forgets them.
This app is a part of project ASPIRE (A Smoking Prevention Interacting Experience) which is itself started by the same Alexander Prokohov. This program mainly concerns high school and middle school students who are most vulnerable to this habit.
Designer of this app Alexander Prokhorov claims that education and entertainment are interconnected with comics and games. He himself is a professor of Behavioral Sciences at University of Texas. He told that the app motivates teens stay away from smoking and is naturally more appealing to youth.  The app not only motivates people, teens largely, to stay away from smoking and smokers but also teaches them behavioral skills.

He took the contents for development of online tobacco prevention curriculum. This app works with cool sounds and animated characters. Plus this app is equally helpful to all kinds of smokers, those who have never smoked, seldom smoke, have difficulty in quitting smoking.  So if you are an addict and want to get free of this bad habit, here is the solution for you as anyone of any age group can get benefits here.
The app also includes games that could help quit smoking. There are games where you have to avoid tempting smoking objects appearing on screen. Another game works by cards where you are memorized the outcomes of smoking via pictures so you are subconsciously getting away from smoking.

In short, this app is pretty helpful if you want to quit smoking and also for parents to keep their children away from this habit.

Latest Gadgets News and Information on Mortal Tech Websites. The Merriam-Webster dictionary reads that a gadget is "an often small mechanical or electronic device with a practical use but often thought of as a novelty". The term "gadget" has no sure etymology although it is believed that it comes from a French company by the name of Gaget. That company was making small replicas of the Eiffel tower in order to promote and finance the project of Mr. Bartholdi (i.e. the Eiffel tower, of course). A gadget is really often thought of as an item that is ingenious, original, maybe fun, with - perhaps - an interesting design but that is not very useful. In a word, people are dubious about the effectiveness and usefulness of a gadget.
